Gusev Crater :
The Gusev Crater was formed by the impact of an asteroid 3 to 4 billion years ago.
It has a diameter of 145 km (90 miles) and the maximum depth is about 1600 m (1 mile).
The interest of this site is that a valley, named Ma'adim Vallis, which is connected to the south side of the crater looks like it may have been a river channel that poured water into the crater, forming a lake.
Scientists expect it to contain layers of sediments, proving water presence in the past.
